Illuminating the Fun in STEM!

Through hands-on activities, live demos and special shows, you can experience all things glow-in-the-dark and luminescent. This neon-lit adventure always gets glowing reviews!

Guests will light up from all the day’s activities throughout the Science Museum.

  • Explore phosphorescent rocks and gems in the Eco Lab.
  • See what illuminates in the Animal Lab, from bones to teeth to scorpions.
  • Create psychedelic effects and colorful views by making diffraction glasses in The Forge.
  • Sip on some science with glowing drinks prepared in our Boost kitchen.
  • Experience a black light extravaganza with a phosphorescent wall, highlighter table, shadow puppets, glowing bubbles, LEGOs and more.
  • Celebrate the opening of the touring exhibition Towers of Tomorrow with LEGO® Bricks.
  • Dust off your old LA Lights and break out your neon as we’ll have a black light dance party with glow sticks.
  • Prepare to be beaming with Movie Magic Laser Shows and astronomy shows happening in The Dome all day.
  • Discover the science of glow with a live demo that will shine light on spectacular chemical reactions.

Schedule

Due to the popularity of this growing and GLOWing annual event, we're giving guests extra time to experience all the fun. GLOW runs from 9:30 a.m.–8 p.m.

The Movie Magic Laser Show features songs from popular films, including The Lion King, Star Wars, Encanto, Frozen, Moana and more. The family friendly program lasts approximately 30 minutes. The Dome schedule is as follows:

  • 10:30 a.m. Movie Magic Laser Show
  • 11:30 a.m. Live Universe Exploration (Astronomy Show)
  • 12:30 p.m. Movie Magic Laser Show
  • 1:30 p.m. Live Universe Exploration (Astronomy Show)
  • 3:30 p.m. Movie Magic Laser Show
  • 4:30 p.m. Live Universe Exploration (Astronomy Show)
  • 5:30 p.m. Movie Magic Laser Show
  • 6:30 p.m. Live Universe Exploration (Astronomy Show)
  • 7:30 p.m. Movie Magic Laser Show

Fuel up with snacks! Two Ugly Mugs Coffee, BigWife's Mac n' Cheese, Funnel Cake Recess and Curbside Creations will be onsite for part of the day. Food trucks are scheduled to be onsite from 11:30 a.m.–7:30 p.m.

Admission

All GLOW activities except Dome shows are included with Science Museum of Virginia admission, which is $17.50 for adults; $14.50 for youth (ages 6–12) and seniors (ages 60 and older) and $10 for preschool-aged children (ages 3–5). Admission is free for Science Museum members and children 2 and under. EBT cardholders receive a discount.

Tickets for this event are capped to help ensure a superior guest experience. All guests, including members, should get their tickets on the Science Museum’s website prior to the event. Tickets will only be available at the door if the event is not sold out.

To control the flow of traffic, the Science Museum is offering timed tickets for GLOW. When purchasing GLOW tickets, please note the entry time as that will dictate when you can access the Science Museum on February 1. You may stay as long as you’d like (well, until the Science Museum closes at 8 p.m.) after you’ve entered. Tickets are not transferable or refundable, and they cannot be resold.

Members: If you reserve tickets and end up not being able to attend, please contact Guest Services at [email protected] so we can make those spaces available for other guests.

The Dome

Dome tickets are $5 per show. The Dome can seat 250 guests. Dome show tickets will only be available for sale on-site at Guest Services if space allows. Guests are encouraged to add their Dome show tickets when they purchase their GLOW tickets in advance of the event.

Please note: Dome features require an add-on ticket. After you add your GLOW ticket to your cart, you will be able to add the Dome feature Laser Show: Movie Magic or Live Universe Exploration to your cart. The Dome could sell out, so be sure to add your Dome tickets to your order before completing check out.

Seats in The Dome are not assigned. Seating is first come, first served. Dome shows begin promptly on time. Guests may not enter late once Dome shows have started, or re-enter The Dome if they need to exit during a program. Before purchasing tickets, be sure all guests in your party are able to sit through the 30-minute show without leaving. The Science Museum will not issue refunds for guests who arrive late or leave during a show. Please review our frequently asked questions for the full list of important Laser Show information. Concessions will be available in The Dome lobby throughout the day.
