An inspiring journey of a scientist from India and the path that led him to NASA.
8 a.m.
Embark on not just one journey, but two: an intriguing tale of personal progression starting in Mumbai, India, and an impressive story about scientific advancement culminating at NASA.
As a world-renowned observational astrophysicist, Associate Chief Scientist Dr. Kartik Sheth will share some of his research on the assembly of galaxies, like our own Milky Way, and explain how such galaxies came to be in the last 10 billion years. Having worked on several of the telescope projects, including James Webb and ALMA (Chile), Sheth will describe the challenges and opportunities of building telescopes on the ground and in space.
In addition, Sheth will describe professional travels that have taken him on a non-traditional career path across government, academia, nonprofits and even the White House, sharing twists and turns along the way. Guests will hear about his multiple roles at the White House advancing science and technology policy both at a national and international level.
